Post Hiatus Post

Two Years Later...

So, I realize it's been awhile, but I lost that blogger feeling after a busy and rough semester.  However, I recently decided to get back into the blogging biz.

This past weekend was the MTA festival (MS Theatre Association), and SCT brought an excellent production.  We also had an excellent time with the other MTA festivities, such as a keynote speech by Billy Brasfield (a.k.a. Billy B), whom I met at the reception afterwards.  His speech was encouraging and powerful, and he also demonstrated his kindness when, during the Q&A afterwards, he accepted a student's request to call his friend and encourage her to follow her dreams of being a makeup artist.  He also demonstrated his kindness and patience when he stayed late at his reception to talk to attendees even though he wasn't feeling that well.  Two of the people he talked to were my parents' teenage foreign exchange students, and he treated them with respect when he could have easily dismissed them because of their youth (they were the only teens there).  Billy B is now one of my favorite "celebrities."

The next night was the adult social at the Lee Home, and they had a gorgeous spread and... karaoke?  Yes, they did, in fact, have karaoke in the Lee Home, and because the social was full of theatre folk, they figuratively brought the house down, especially when M sang "The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia" while J did an interpretive dance.  I love my theatre family.

I had a great time this weekend, not only at the MTA festival, but also with my parents and P & J, their foreign exchange students.  Last night culminated in a filled-with-laughter game of Apples to Apples with the movie Across the Universe playing in the background.  Trust me, nothing is more humorous than playing Apples to Apples with two teenage boys from Europe.  It also turns into a teaching opportunity about pop culture icons, such as Woody Allen and Marilyn Monroe.  It can also turn dirty, or rather, I really enjoyed testing each judge's reasons for making any choices that weren't my card. ;-)  (Sorry, I was feeling a bit feisty after a really nice afternoon nap... Besides, the boys were getting tired way too early in the evening, and that was the only way to keep them alert and entertaining.)  My mom and the boys enjoyed countering my arguments, and we all laughed until I could feel laugh lines etch into my skin.

Suffice it to say, we had a good time.

So, why am I saying all this?  Well, sometimes all you need to unwind after a fun yet emotional and stressful week is just to kick back, play a game, and laugh with the ones you love.
